As if all new parents aren’t mildly neurotic about their child’s well-being, our pediatrician casually said the following to us when we took Lillian in a few weeks ago (she was super sick):
Dr: “Have you always noticed her one eye is smaller than the other?”
Us: “No! We never noticed. What????”
Dr: “Yes, look, her left eye is slightly smaller than her right eye” (as watery tears are running down our baby’s face)
Me: “Are you sure it’s not because she’s sick and her eyes are itchy and watery?”
Dr: “Yep, I’ve noticed since she was a newborn, but I just thought it would go away…”
GREAT! Thanks for thoroughly freaking us out, causing me to google eye problems more than I already need to, and have me worried that our baby has ptosis or some operable optical issue.
Why would you say that to new parents?!?!?!?! UGH!
And now… it’s all I see when I look at her.
